Planting:

Dig a hole twice the width of the rootball but not deeper.

Mix in organic matter (leaf mould, composted bark, ericaceous compost if soil is alkaline).

Plant with the root collar level with the soil.

Mulch with bark/leaf mould, but keep mulch clear of the trunk
Position & Planting

Light: Best in dappled shade or with morning sun/afternoon shade. Protect from harsh midday sun, which can scorch variegated leaves.

Shelter: Choose a sheltered spot (away from strong winds) – ideal near a wall, fence, or within other shrubs.

Soil: Prefers moist, fertile, well-drained soil that’s slightly acidic to neutral (pH 5.5–7). Avoid very chalky/alkaline soils.
