Description

Heucherella ‘Solar Eclipse’
coral bells
vigorous clump of scalloped red-brown leaves that are bordered in lime green. Sprays of white bell flowers appear in late spring. Nice choice for the woodland garden, for edging in a shady perennial border and the rock garden. Evergreen in mild winter regions. Foliage should not be trimmed back in the fall, but plants may be tidied up in spring by removing any withered or tired-looking leaves.

Position: partial shade
Soil: fertile, moist or well-drained soil
Rate of growth: average
Flowering period: May to July
Hardiness: fully hardy
Eventual height: 10-16″
Eventual spread: 10-16″

Garden care: Remove tatty foliage in autumn. Lift and divide clumps every couple of years in early autumn and replant with the crown just above the surface of the soil. Apply a generous 5-7 cm (2-3 in) mulch of well-rotted organic matter around the crown of the plant in spring.
